Meet the Maker Wine Lunch: Lark Hill

  • Muse East Hotel, 69 Canberra Ave Kingston ACT 2604 (map)
Chris Carpenter Cellar Door

Winemaker Chris Carpenter

We're delighted to bring you another of our fabulous wine lunches! We’re thrilled to showcase the luxurious wines of Lark Hill over a five course long lunch with Canberra District winemaker Chris Carpenter.

The Lark Hill vines were first planted in 1978 by Chris’ parents Sue & Dave as one of the highest plantings in the Canberra District. Chris joined the winemaking team nearly 20 years ago in 2002.

Lark Hill vines are sparingly irrigated, as most water available in the area is saline, giving the grapes intense flavours while producing limited crops. The 2008 vintage marked as the first ‘Certified Biodynamic’ wines from the winery.

We’ve got five ‘Regional’ wines and five premium ‘Estate’ wines that we’ve perfectly matched with a menu created by our talented kitchen team for you to taste.

Tables are available in half hour time slots starting from 12pm with last sitting at 1:30pm. This is a perfect way to support a local Canberra winery and kickstart your summer after a difficult couple of months. So grab a date, get some friends, or come as you are!

Premium Estate Food & Wine Match $120pp

Featured Wine

Prologue - Regional & Estate
Blanc de Blanc
Sparkling Chardonnay, bottle fermented and matured. This is traditional method sparkling, resulting in a lively, vibrant and refreshing aperitif.

Chapter One - Regional
2021 Riesling
Sourcing fruit from nearby vineyards this aromatic, delicate wine captures the vibrancy of Riesling from the Canberra Region.

Chapter One - Estate
2021 Lark Hill Vineyard Riesling
The slow and late vintage at Lark Hill produces an intense and aromatic Riesling with vibrant lime, green apple and mineral notes underscored by zesty acidity.

Chapter Two - Regional
2018 Chardonnay
Using Canberra District fruit, and made exclusively in old oak before spending two years in bottle, this is a bright, fruit-driven style with hints of grapefruit, melon and spice.

Chapter Two - Estate
2018 Lark Hill Vineyard Chardonnay
This is wild yeast fermented in French oak barrels and held on lees for twelve months to add creamy complexity. One third fermented in new oak to introduce spice and texture to this poised and restrained traditional style.

Chapter Three - Regional
2021 Shiraz NEW RELEASE
Made with a blend of fruit from Hilltops NSW and the Canberra District, this perfumed young wine has red berry notes, lift and spice.

Chapter Three - Estate
2017 Dark Horse Vineyard Syrah
A single harvest of Syrah from Dark Horse Vineyard, the second, newer Lark Hill site in Murrumbateman. Indigenous yeast, 20% whole bunch and 12 months in fine-grained French oak to produce a perfumed, vibrant wine with spice and complexity. One of the finest wines from the Lark Hill cellar.

Epilogue - Regional & Estate
Lark Hill Vineyard Ley-Line Riesling
This is not a botrytised wine but a late-picked Riesling made from grapes which ripen slowly, producing intense and balanced fruit.

Epilogue - Estate only
2013 Dark Horse Vineyard ‘Victoria’ Fortified Shiraz
This shiraz was fortified with brandy spirit to 18.5% and made from one of the finest vintages in recent years; rich, ripe red fruits and spice lead a boisterous palate with fine tannins and beguiling sweetness.
