Photojournalist Alex Ellinghausen covers politics for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, based at their Parliament House bureau. He was the 2018 Press Gallery Journalist of the Year, the first photographer to have won this award as well as a recipient of the Nikon-Walkley awards, the Kennedy awards and the Quill awards. He has covered three federal election campaigns and multiple leadership challenges which has seen Australia change prime ministers multiple times over the past decade.
