Cellar Door Experience: Vinea Marson

We are very pleased to present another unique cellar door experience here at Muse!

Joining us from Heathcote, Victoria, owner-winemaker Mario Marson of Vinea Marson spent many years as the winemaker viticulturist the celebrated Mount Mary Vineyard (Yarra Valley, VIC). He purchased the Vinea Marson property in 1999 where he planted classic Australian varietals Shiraz and Viognier, plus Italian varieties Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, a grape that produces a deeply coloured wine leaning towards a full-body with high acidity and flavors of plum & almond notes. Sounds divine!

The Vinea Marson cellar door is open by appointment only, so this is an experience not to be missed! The tastings will be in 30 minute slots with a maximum of 10 participants for each time slot.

In keeping with Mario's own tasting practices at the cellar door, we'll also be offering a small selection of Italian style antipasti, and a special release, delicious 'drunken buffalo' cheese made with Vinea Marson Nebbiolo skins by award winning Melbourne cheesemaker Giorgio Linguanti.

Featured Wine

2012 "Grazia" Pinot bianco, Friulano, Malvasia d’Istria
This is a highly textural, highly aromatic style which delights in being different. Flavours of dried apricot, yeast, dried herbs and preserved citrus fruits. (93 points | James Halliday)

2012 Viognier
This is pure varietal in character and maintains a sense of control but, more importantly, sheer deliciousness. (95 points | James Halliday)

2011 Sangiovese
This wine is light garnet in colour and displays a savoury and bright cherry nose while the palate exhibits a balanced medium weight, with firm, elegant tannins and a clean finish.

2010 Nebbiolo
Aromas of blackcurrants and cherries, with a hint of rose petals and dried herbs are evident on the nose. The wine explodes on the palate with blackcurrant, raspberry and leather flavours and exhibits firm, integrated tannins with a long finish.

2010 Syrah
There are developed and savoury aromas on the bouquet, while the palate reveals prodigious tannins, fresh acidity and complex developed flavours. It was a picture perfect vintage in Heathcote and this off-the-book, extraordinary wine is sure to polarise opinion! (92 points | James Halliday)
