Having always considered herself a prose writer, poetry took over completely for Susan Varga after a stroke. There is nothing obscure in these poems. They have the pace and power of a short novel as they chart the confronting journey of recovery. The resulting Rupture is at times bold, dark, humorous, and ultimately outward-looking.
"Susan’s is not a dark book, it’s a book that thumbs its nose at death and disease, it cocks an undaunted snook at them…"
Hear Susan Varga read from and talk about the book with author of The Petrov Poems, Canberra’s Lesley Lebkowicz.
"The directness and simplicity of these poems, beautifully arranged as stages in a recovery, carry the urgency, honesty and celebration of a life reclaimed."
